Bad Bitches Don't Cry (pt 2)

At 4pm that day, Rukie began executing her payback.
She did some research on Tade’s wife via a simple google search on her phone number. It brought up her Facebook page, which was littered with more pictures of Tade and their kids. Her name was Kelechi. The search also led Rukie to her Instagram account, which turned out to be a business page where she sold clothes, and it had her boutique address boldly displayed.

Acting like a prospective customer, Rukie called her number to ask if a gown she had seen on the IG page was still available. She got a response in the affirmative, and another affirmative when she asked if she could come pick it up at the boutique right away.
She dressed up, got into her G-Wag and was on her way from Magodo to Ogba, to see her rival, Kelechi.
The boutique was not hard for her to locate since she had grown up in Ikeja and knew her way around Ogba all too well. The surprising thing, though, was that what was listed on Kelechi’s IG as a boutique was nothing more than a cramped little store.
Rukie recognized Kelechi the instant she saw her thanks to the pictures from Tade’s phone and those on Facebook. Like herself, Kelechi was light-skinned and tall.
Tade must have a thing for light-skinned, tall women. But how can someone have such a beautiful wife and still not be content? Rukie wondered.
She bought the dress she had seen online, paid for it and when Kelechi’s assistant was out of earshot, she began,
“Madam, I must say you have a lot of quality stuff here.” It was a blatant lie, the attires she was seeing were little better than ‘Made in China’ clothes. “I mean, when I saw the pictures on your page, I was like wowww. I was even amazed you don’t have so many followers, you need to get more awareness.”
“Ah, thank you, my sister. And these things you are seeing are still small. Just come next week after I have gone to the market, you will see many trendy and unique things.”
“You mean you don’t import your wears? Wow, I thought they were imported stuff, they look sooo nice,”
Kelechi laughed, exposing a perfect row of teeth and a charming little gap-tooth. “My sister, no o. But I buy from those who import and I make sure I only buy from the people that sell good quality.”
Hmmm. This Kelechi is a very open and jovial lady. It won’t be hard to get through to her, Rukie observed
“But do you know that you can make much more profit if you import by yourself? Those people that re-sell to you guys make quite a killing.”
“That’s my ultimate plan, dear. Little by little, I will get there. I started this business not too long, but as long as I am able to make customers like you happy, I know I will grow fast.”
“Don’t worry, you have a loyal customer in me.”
The salesgirl returned with her package and a receipt. Rukie took them and turned to Kelechi again.
“My name is Vera, by the way,” she lied, “And I if you don’t mind, I would like to be your friend.”
The other woman’s expression betrayed a bit of surprise, but she kept smiling and said, “Of course, no problem.”
“Good. I’m a business woman too and I’m sure there are some business tips we can share with each other, though I am not in the clothing line. I sell jewellery.”
It was actually a lie. She had 3 business and one of them was an online clothes store. The other two were an online/offline hair store and a salon-cum-spa.
Her reason for those lies was simple. She knew there was a chance Kelechi would tell her husband, at some point, about the new friend she had made. Hearing her real name or business name would alert him to the fact that it was her and that she was up to something. And that would ruin her plans. It was for that same reason that she had called Kelechi with a newly bought and registered SIM.
“Let me show you my page.” She opened an account that belonged to one of her friends, who was actually the one that sold jewellery, and showed it to Kelechi.
“Wow,” the other woman gasped, “You have over 200k followers.”
Rukie smiled and patted her on the hand, “I think I might have a few things to teach you on Instagram marketing and how to get maximum exposure for your business.”
“I would love that, Rukie. It’s really great meeting you.”
There was more exchange of pleasantries between both women, with Kelechi gushing again when she escorted Rukie to where she was parked and saw that she drove a G-Wagon. Then Rukie went her way.
Back home, she called her friend who owned the jewellery business page, asking her to do a free promo for Kelechi’s business, to help grow her followers.
“But who’s this person and why should I do this for her?” her friend, Banke, wanted to know.
“Don’t worry, I will tell you what it’s all about soon. Just do it for me.”
“Hmmm, okay o.”
The next morning, Kelechi’s call woke her.
“Madam Vera, thank you so much. I saw the post you did on my store, I am so grateful. Can you believe that within that time and now I have gotten over 100 new followers and 5 of them have even placed orders?” she enthused.
“Who’s Madam Vera. Abeg, call me Vera. We are friends, remember? This is the sort of thing friends do for each other.”
“Wow, you are such an amazing person. I am happy to have someone like you for a friend.”

Rukie smiled after the call ended. The first part of her plan, which was becoming friends with Tade’s wife, was working out even better than she had thought it would. It was time to start executing the second part. And that was, 'getting close to Tade's boss'.
